When leaving the airport by car, and approaching the N340, the left hand lane which takes you across the flyover goes to the Malaga, Colmenar, the Axarquía and the Eastern Costa del Sol, whereas the right hand lane is for Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona, Gibraltar, and all other points on the western Costa del Sol.

Public transport service

Station LogoThere is a regular train service from the airport to Málaga city and along the coast to Fuengirola. Departures every half hour in either direction. Travel time to the centre of Málaga is 12 minutes, to Fuengirola 29 minutes. The train station is outside the international terminal. Take the lift in the arrivals hall up to the Departures hall. Walk outside onto the upper level parking area, and turn right. Follow the signs over the footbridge to the train station.

Bus number 19 runs a frequent service between the airport and Málaga city. The bus stop is located just outside the main arrivals hall. Turn right on leaving and walk about 40 metres. This is an urban bus, it may leave the airport empty but fill with passengers en-route so be prepared if you have a lot of luggage. From the airport to Malaga bus and train station every half hour.

Directions by road out of the airport

Leave the Airport Terminal or car hire company and follow the only exit road. After the roundabout you will see the huge facilities of the San Miguel brewery on your right.

Take the left lane across the flyover (overpass) for Malaga, Nerja, Antequera, Colmenar and all points east, following the signs to the N340 coast road. If you're going to Colmenar, Antequera or Granada, take the exit for the Ronda de Málaga (Malaga Ring Road), connecting back to the N340.

Take the right lane for the western Costa del Sol and Ronda. This lane joins the N340 coast road heading west, to Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Calahonda, Marbella, San Pedro, Ronda, Estepona, Sotogrande, and the Costa de la Luz. Turn right after 1 kilometre to the N340 motorway for Fuengirola and beyond. For Ronda, take the inland road at San Pedro, at the first stop light on this road. Ronda is 1 hour's drive from the coast.
