Route of Camino de la Fuente (La Viñuela)

Distance: 20 kilometres
Difficulty: Medium
Transport: On foot/On horseback

Leave the village of La Viñuela along the Camino de la Fuente, which will take you close to the barrage, the largest in the province of Málaga. Turn left here and follow the circular road surrounding the reservoir.

Here, you can visit the historic sites with remains dating from the Palaeolithic period to the Roman times. Taking the road of El Arco from here, ascend the slopes up to Los Romanes, which offers excellent views of the barrage, the reservoir, and all the villages around it.

The next and last stop will be the Arab tower Torre de la Atalaya, which, in Moorish times, served as a communications link between the defensive towers along the cost and the Castillo de Zalia in Alcaucín.
