White villages
The pueblos blancos or white villages of the Montes de Málaga and the Alta Axarquía form a connection from the beach to the mountains. They are easy to reach and well connected by road from the N-340 along the coast and the A-45 between Antequera and Málaga.

Sheltered by its mountains, being close to the sea and enjoying many hours of sunlight, the area offers a Mediterranean climate without extremes in summer or winter. The whole made up by rivers, watercourses, streams and riverbeds that drain the surface waters flow into the Mediterranean Sea through three main rivers: the Guadalhorce, the Guadalmedina and the Vélez-river.
The whole area is one of outstanding beauty where fields of crop, almond and olive trees are complemented by a background of mountains covered with woods of pines, oaks and brushwood adorned with limestone. This quiet image is only disturbed by rabbits, hares, foxes, partridges and an occasional boar. The green and copper-coloured fields are dazzled by the shining whitewash of the many farmhouses of the area. There are many lovely and historic villages in the region, highly recommended for a visit. This is an idyllic place that tempts to rest.
