Riogordo
The
village of Riogordo is enclosed by the impressive vally of
the Río de la Cueva, that irrigate the fields surrounding
the village. There are still remains from the Phoenician colonization
and the Roman rule, like the mosaics in the villas of Auta,
dating from the 3rd century. It owes its economical expansion
to the Moorish era, which also left its traces, even in the
topographic names, like Cerro de Alcolea, Partido
de Bendamor or Cortijo Alfajan. Places of interest
are the church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia, built
in 1490, the hermitage San Sebastian from the late
17th century, and the Museo Municipal de Artes Populares,
the local museum that exhibits an ample collection of tools
to demonstrate the lives and customs of the people who once
lived here.
